In addition to Albert Edelfelt and Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Eero Järnefelt is one of Finland’s most recognized “gold masters”.

He has been perceived as a “national” artist, and his most important part of his production has been the realistic works of the 1890s; many of them have become part of the collective image memory of Finns.

However, Järnefelt was a very versatile artist: he was a landscape painter, nationalist and portrait photographer, belonged to the early representatives of Finnish graphic art and performed a significant life work as a teacher. Source: Kansallisbiografia.fi
