Concerning a site named Blackle which is supposed to swap Google's
white background for a black one to supposedly save energy, Macworld
says this…Mea culpa: Upon further review, we have to agree that a "black" Google
won't reduce the energy consumption of a modern LCD display; it would,
as you say, cut consumption only for a CRT.
